farewell, cosmo cocktail

It has been done. The first and ugliest chemo course is over. Becca came right home to bed but after a nap was in and out of it through the remainder of the day. It was great to see our onc again today, fresh back from vacation. She noted that the lump is definitely softer than it used to be, so that is a great sign.

The plan from here on out is Neulasta as usual tomorrow, and then in 2 weeks start a 12-week course of Taxol & Herceptin once a week. In general these drugs are tolerated better, but as with all the stages so far, for every person it can be a little different. We shall see. Also since Herceptin can have additional cardiac toxicity, we will be getting another echocardiogram baseline next week.

Many of you have asked when we will have more scans. The answer is still "not yet". Our oncologist said nothing we would see on a scan would change the next chemo course, so there is no point in doing another until after this next course is finished and we are doing the pre-surgery evaluation.

After the Taxol is done there will be about a month recovery period before the surgery, so if you map all that out it looks like we are headed for surgery in the late-June range. June will be a great month for us to have off, given the end of school, recitals, college reunion, and birthday-PALOOZA. (Rachel June 5, Jack June 7, Sammy June 11... I know, I know: we're nuts.)

And so up starts the food delivery yet again! Many thanks to Sheri Jubber for the delicious kajillion-bean soup for us and the yummy spaghetti sauce for the kiddos.
