race for the cure

This just in from our Pointy Boots office in Skaneateles, NY. Poppa Lee's friend Ginny put together "Team Becca," a group of athletes that ran the 5K Central New York Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. They joined 9,000 runners and raised over $750,000 for fighting breast cancer. And Gramma Sue came in first in her age group! (Well what do you expect from an Iron Woman?) Poppa Lee finished respectably, too.

Our thanks go to these and all our friends and family who have taken it upon themselves to go out and walk, ride, run, skip rope, knit, or whatever their way to making more resources available for this fight. We've said it many times on here: breast cancer is one of the most well-funded diseases out there. We owe a large part of the success to efforts like this, both financially and awareness-wise.

A quick update on Becca- the cough is definitely subsiding. A minor fit now and then at night but sleep is no longer hard to come by. Relatively low-key week coming up. Herceptin on Wednesday, but this alone has no side effects. (woo-hoo!) Except for the possibility of cardiac rigidity, which is why we keep up with the echocardiograms every few months. Our echo on Friday appeared to be just fine as far as the tech was concerned. So far so good.
