bee-ootiful weather

Happy Birthday Dad! It's just been so nice the last couple days. It must have been over 90 today. And that or something else seems to have given Becca a boost. She's been quite with it the last couple days, even though nights are still hard -- no more than 2 hours of sleep at a stretch. I didn't see her in bed today once though. Yes she's been busy with work, but there's something else afoot. She thinks maybe her body knows the chemo is almost over. Whatever the case, we'll take the unexpected pick-me-up.

This weekend was a bit more low-keyed. Many thanks to Debra who brought a great chicken and pasta concoction and yummy dessert. Rachel's attendance at her friend Michaela's birthday party Saturday brings up another funny chemo-brain story. It goes like this. *Last* weekend, we had gotten the invitation to the party three days prior and realized if Rachel was going to go, it would be an effort to arrange it around our Saturday visit to Boston to see Peter and Amanda who were up north for the marathon. (you see where this is going...)

Rachel really wanted to go. It was at an indoor water park! And, oh no, Rachel didn't have a bathing suit that fit anymore! And we had to get a present! Ok run out to Mashall's! Run out to Lord's! How dare they tell us about this party only 3 days in advance?! How gauche! We had to arrange for Rachel to stay beyond the end of the party since we wouldn't be back from Boston yet when the party ended. It probably would be fine, but we needed to clear it with Michaela's mom. Becca emailed Friday. No answer. Called Friday night. No answer. Panicking, I called like ten times Saturday morning and afternoon!

"Mommy." interjected Rachel, invitation in hand.

Just a minute honey. Where could they be?!

"Mommy."

Rachel I'm talking. Just a minute. How could they not be there the day they are having a party?! We'll just keep trying to call! Maybe we could get a neighbor to pick her up! WHY AREN'T THEY ANSWERING?!

"Mommy the invitation says the 25th. It's not the 25th today."

What?! Oh. OH! ... Oh dear. .... Wanna come to Boston with us, honey?

Yes, not only did chemo-brain Mommy fail to lock onto the date, which is understandable, but the scheduler who is supposed to be in charge (me) didn't think to check the invitation either. Luckily Rachel checked it. Oy. And where could Michaela's family have been a WEEK before her party at the beginning of SCHOOL VACATION? Hmmm. Let's ponder that mystery... That must have been a very enjoyable round of hang-ups and frustrated-sounding tense messages to listen to on the machine when they got back from vacation. We are truly a bunch of freaks. I talked with Michaela's mom later and we all had a good laugh. My, my.

But on to tomorrow. Number 10. Double digits. Only three T/H treatments left!
