hyper mommy

Halfway there! 6 out of the 12 T/H treatments are done. Becca noted yesterday in an exasperated parenting moment that she actually is starting to look forward to chemo days, which is when she can spend some time reading a book and relaxing. So that gives you a taste of the tenor of our home life: chemo actually looks inviting from where we sit. (jus kiddin' kids!)

So since they've dialed down the Benadryl dosage we're noticing a trend in Becca's behavior for the rest of the day following the chemo. Hmmm, how shall I put this? She reminds me a bit of Kelly Ripa on that hilarious SNL sketch. (Kelly gets major points for the self-deprecation...)

Let me paint you a picture... Becca sits down to dinner, talks to the kids, does a crossword and a sudoku puzzle at the same time while eating and jumps down the kids throats whenever something isn't happening fast enough (Jack get your agenda so I can check it. jack Jack JACK WHERE is IT?! - mommy I'm getting it - OH Ok. Then she's telling Sammy to give that marker back to Rachel but she gets the name wrong: JACK no S.. J... SAMMY give that marker BACK to Rachel! Then Jack is not sharing paper with Sammy but another name boggle ensues: SAM no JA no S... no JACK share that with him!

Curse those similar names, what with the, um, "a" as the second letter and everything. And then she's helping with the homework too and checking Jack's answers and HEY that answer's wrong no No NO wait a minute OOOPs no that's right ok!! great! Daddy reminds the kids that Mommy is bit hyper this evening so don't worry, to which they nod knowingly and then woah she's gone! Over playing the piano now. The same eight bars again and again NOPE that's the wrong note and again DAMNIT and again ok NOW I've got it and again...then she's back in the kitchen now with the dishes scrub scrub SCRUB

You get the point. Oy. The funny thing is that all of us in the family deal easily with this behavior because this is basically how Sammy is all. the. time. I snuggled him to sleep tonight and just like every other night, he went to bed sweating. The boy is either in his 100% vigorous state or asleep. or sick. You know he's sick when he acts normal.

Lots more to tell about today, but it's late so I'll spread it out...
