3 down, with extra tangents!

Because we don't want these chemo visits to get boring, we decided to have today's on a SNOW DAY. Aye carumba. Luckily our Medfield network swung into action yet again. The kids all had a great day at the Jubbers. Sammy even cried when he had to leave. Thank you Jubbers!

Meanwhile back at the hospital, we did it: the 3rd wave against Lumpy is away. This time Becca got hit pretty hard fatigue-wise in just a few hours. But this is no surprise; for many A/C chemo patients it gets progressively more difficult for the body to recover with each dose. Also Becca had a little nausea, but nothing a few saltines and some ginger ale couldn't fix.

Which reminds me, a possible side effect of one of Becca's nausea medications is -- get this -- nausea. Hmmm. Isn't that the same thing as saying one of the side effects of this drug is that, um, it doesn't work. ?!

Back to the visit. Every time we go in for a dose, we first drop by the blood lab to make sure Becca's white cell count is high enough to continue. No problems today in that department, but they noticed a lower-than-usual platelet count. Chemo can cause this, and the count wasn't low enough to put off this dose. However, the onc wants us to come in next week to check the platelet count again. If it is too low at that point, then the last dose of chemo may get pushed off for a bit, or a platelet transfusion might be given. Platelets are what help your blood clot after a cut, so Becca is hereby banned from slicing and dicing things!

Oh, and getting the chemo today was extremely uncomfortable... for me. You see we shared a room with an older gentleman who was very nice except for the fact that he asked the nurse for the tv remote almost immediately. So he turns on the tv and then promptly calls someone on his cell. Because this is daytime tv, which is not so much meant to be watched as just to be on. Longtime readers of this blog can surmise how I did with this... Oh yes, I was treated to The View where they talked for like hours about absolutely nothing and Whoopi Goldberg rubbed vegetables on herself and then the vegetables in the audience hooted and hollered as someone tried out a truly assinine swinging exercise contraption. Honestly people, why do we encourage this programming?

Anyway. Many thanks also to the Treibers, who handled the dinner duty tonight. Fabulous chicken piccata arrived on our doorstep at 5!
